Image Compression FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about image compression, file formats, privacy, and our browser-based processing technology.
Is it really free? Are there any hidden costs?
Yes, our image compression tool is completely free with no hidden costs, subscription fees, or usage limits. We support the service through non-intrusive advertisements. You can compress unlimited images without creating an account or providing payment information.
How secure is my data? Do you store my images?
Your images are 100% secure because they never leave your browser. All processing happens locally on your device using Web APIs. We cannot see, access, or store your images in any way. This makes our tool perfect for confidential business documents, personal photos, or any sensitive visual content.
What image formats do you support?
We support all major image formats:
- Input: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, SVG
- Output: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or keep original format
- Coming Soon: HEIC/HEIF support for iPhone photos
What's the maximum file size I can upload?
Our tool supports files up to 25MB per image. This is sufficient for most high-resolution photos and graphics. Unlike server-based tools, there are no daily upload limits or monthly quotas.
How much can I reduce file sizes?
Compression results vary, but typical savings include:
- JPEG to WebP: 25-35% size reduction
- PNG to WebP: 45-65% size reduction
- Any format to AVIF: 50-70% size reduction
- Quality optimization: 30-80% reduction without visible quality loss
Does it work on mobile devices?
Yes! Our tool is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. However, processing large images on mobile devices may be slower due to hardware limitations.
Can I use this for commercial projects?
Absolutely! Our tool is free for both personal and commercial use with no licensing restrictions.
Why choose WebP or AVIF over JPEG?
Modern formats like WebP and AVIF provide significantly better compression while maintaining the same visual quality. WebP is supported by 95%+ of browsers and typically reduces file sizes by 25-35% compared to JPEG. AVIF offers even better compression (up to 50% smaller) and is supported by 70%+ of modern browsers.
Do you remove EXIF data from images?
Yes, by default we strip metadata including EXIF data, which can contain sensitive information like GPS coordinates, camera settings, and timestamps. You can disable this option if you need to preserve metadata.
What happens if I lose internet connection?
Once the tool is loaded in your browser, it works completely offline. You can continue compressing and downloading images even without an internet connection.
How does the quality setting work?
The quality slider (1-100%) controls the compression level. We recommend:
- 85-95%: Professional photography, portfolio images
- 75-85%: Website content, blog images (recommended)
- 60-75%: Social media, email campaigns
- 40-60%: Thumbnails, background images
